The Department of the Study of Religion and Comparative Research was established by the Rector's decision of 1st March 2011. Members of the department were previously employed at the Institute of Philosophy, Department of History and Philosophy of Religion, which was established in 1988. Since that time, the Department has published more than 50 monographs and handbooks and more than 500 academic articles and articles for the general public. The members of the department have taken part in approx 100 academic conferences, including several dozen international events. They have organized and co-organized congresses, conferences and seminars dedicated to the study of religion. The members of the staff of the Department have given many courses in the study of religion. Between 1999 and 2002 the department carried out two research projects on sects, cults and new religious movements in Europe financed by the State Committee for Scientific Research.
